Becoming a mother is one life-changing experience to me and the most rewarding moment for Alvin.  It took us more than four years to finally get a glimpse of what we call God’s answered prayer — Vielle.  For more than 14 hours in the labor room, I really tried so hard to have a normal delivery.  I wrestled with the excruciating contractions and refused pain relievers in my desire to experience that life’s only “most-cherrished” pain, childbirth.  Sad to say, I didn’t succeed for my doctor decided to open me up after long hours of labor watch and being stuck at 7cm for almost two hours.

Nevertheless, it was the most wonderful moment of my life.  At exactly 4:14 in the morning of 3 July 2011, Vielle Alexander Frankie finally got a glimpse of the world.  Although I already knew that I was going to have a baby boy, I was more relieved when my OB confirmed that it was indeed a ‘healthy baby boy’.

With the intense numbness and daze as the anesthesia was still running in my veins,  my only recollection of our first acquaintance was hearing that low-toned voice which really sounded like his dad when he cried.

It felt like forever to wait for our son to be roomed in.  He had to be in the nursery for at least a day to complete a vast majority of the tests and procedures for newborns. And having undergone CS, it was more convenient and safer for me to fully recover, at least for a day, after the operation.

And when we finally met, I could only describe it in four words – ‘love at first sight’.  Those thick black hair, tiny fingers and toes with paper-thin long nails and the very irresistible sweet powdery smell were heavenly.  I stood amazed and stunned by the beauty of the creature that rested in my arms.
